I have used Lyryx in my business statistics class for many years at Lethbridge College.  I use Lyryx to get students to practice more and to engage in the material more.  Lyryx is an excellent online tool that appeals to most if not all students and thus achieving student engagement in more hands on practice of statistics problems and exercises… students learn and grasp by doing – Lyryx is an excellent tool in achieving this!

2. What are the top three benefits of Lyryx?

The student labs!  The questions are very well written. But more than that, Lyryx has to option to allow a student to repeat labs as many times as they want before the instructor designated deadline – and it keeps the highest score! – encouraging students to master the material.  Here is the great thing about Lyryx – each time a student does a lab the data set is new / different.  It is not just an exact repeat of the previous version of the lab.  Every student and every lab is unique.  This has students to work through the question again (same concepts, new data).  My students have benefited greatly from this aspect of Lyryx for many years now.

Lyryx is easy to access.  Anywhere a student has access to the internet they can very easily access the Lyryx website and the assigned labs.

Lyryx is setup very well and ease of use for the student is unparalleled compared to other online systems I have tried.  Students find registering, using and understanding the system very straightforward and NOT frustrating.  I rarely have to deal with any Lyryx system issues as an instructor!

3. What, if any, was your experience with products similar to Lyryx?

Other systems have not been as easy to access as Lyryx is.  Other systems have not been near as robust as Lyryx in the design of labs for students and the ability to run the lab again and again with non-repeating data.

4. Would you recommend Lyryx to a colleague? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend Lyryx to any instructor or professor looking to encourage students to practice the material for their course more!  I have made the Lyryx component of my class a part of the student’s grade.  Because of the excellent design of the Lyryx system and the labs inside the Lyryx system, students must individually complete the labs.  There is little to no opportunity for students to “copy” off of each other.  The unique data set given same concept questions ensures that students must complete their own unique lab however still allowing students to work together on the concept at hand.

Using Lyryx in my Statistics class for many years now has absolutely benefited my students, increased grades in what is typically considered a hard class for many students and has increased overall engagement in the course!

5. Is there anything you’d like to add?

Lyryx is a great system!  The staff at Lyryx are great to work with.  The system rarely glitches or has issues.  It is very user friendly from both an instructor and student perspective.  Lyryx makes a big difference to my Statistics students!
